Watch out for fake Oktava microphonesBy Steve Langer, added May 8, 2005
Mojo Pie has perhaps provided the most meaningful and relevant reviews of Oktava microphones available online. We love the MK012. We like the MK319. We pretty much think the MK219 sucks. The continuing feedback we get from readers about our Oktava reviews is that they are "spot on."
Recently, Mojo Pie became aware of certain Chinese made imitations to genuine Russian made Oktava microphones. Mojo Pie's reviews only cover Russian made Oktava microphones. We cannot vouch for the quality (good or bad) of the imitation Oktava mics. It may well turn out that for contractual reasons that the firm marketing the Chinese made Oktava microphones may be able to do so without legal repercussion. It appears at this time that there is only one Chinese made Oktava on the market that's been labeled as the MC012 (an alternate designation of the MK012 small condenser). Remember: It's not the same mic as reviewed and recommended by Mojo Pie.
The fake MC012 (MK012) does not include the -10 dB pad that comes with the genuine Russian made Oktava MC012 (MK012). The fake MC012 (MK012) comes with a plastic mic clip. The original Russian made MC012 (MK012) comes with a metal mic clip.
